I believe in order for you to get the most out of counselling or therapy you will need to feel safe and comfortable sharing difficult and painful thoughts, feelings and memories without fear of judgment. So I’ll work with you to build a strong working relationship suited to your individual needs, taking the time to get to know you and what you want to get from the therapy relationship. I’ll help you understand what’s causing you suffering or difficulty, and gain awareness of how you think, feel and behave, so that we can work together to understand your difficulties, their meaning for you and their impact on your life. I'll also help you explore anything you can do to increase your happiness, and achieve your goals in life.
I have a strong interest in mindfulness and compassion, and believe that often we feel unhappy and experience difficulty in life because we've become disconnected from feelings and mindlessly act out old and unhelpful ways of being. I believe that through becoming more aware of what is going on inside, in our minds and bodies, and cultivating an attitude of compassion for ourselves, we can find a way through unhappiness to greater wellbeing, satisfaction, and enjoyment of life. I use Transactional Analysis (TA) (an effective form of psychotherapy which can be similar to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)) to help you gain awareness of and explore your patterns of feelings, thoughts and behaviours, in order to find ways to relate to yourself and others which help you feel more empowered and confident to achieve your goals in all areas of your life.
I have an MSc in TA Psychotherapy and am a Certified Transactional Analyst, and am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) (No. 2011175859). My experience includes over 9 years' providing counselling and therapy to individuals and couples, including at Mind and Age UK, and as a volunteer listener helping callers in despair and distress at the Samaritans.
I am located in South West London, a short walk from both Clapham Common and Clapham North Tube Stations at 2 Lion Yard, Tremadoc Road, London SW4 7NQ.
I also offer sessions online via Zoom, Skype or telephone.
My fee is £75 (online) or £80 (in person) per session for individuals and £85 (online) or £90 (in person) per session for couples. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling or therapy works, or to arrange an initial appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also email me at bendustincounselling@gmail.com or call me on 07832 115 703 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
I aim to respond within 1 working day, and all contact is strictly confidential.
